AAP MP denied permission to meet arrested students
PRAYAGRAJ, June 4 -- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh expressed strong displeasure after being denied permission by the district and police administration to meet two students arrested while attempting to submit a memorandum to the government over the recent examination paper leak issue.
The students, Ashutosh Pandey and Pankaj Pandey, were arrested by police on charges of apprehension to breach of peace when they were on their way to submit a memorandum regarding the paper leak controversy on Tuesday.
The arrests triggered criticism from opposition leaders and student groups.
Sanjay Singh, who had earlier visited Prayagraj and held discussions on the paper leak issue at the Circuit House, said he wished to meet the students in jail on Wednesday. However, the administration reportedly refused permission for the meeting, prompting the AAP leader to condemn the move.
Taking to social media and addressing chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Singh alleged that the advice of a handful of "sycophantic officials" could ultimately lead to the government's political downfall.
He claimed that student leader Ashutosh Pandey was scheduled to appear in the Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) examination after a wait of five years but remained behind bars instead.
"The administration has refused to allow me to meet Ashutosh Pandey in jail. Do not make the mistake of confronting the youth.
History is witness that every dictatorship has eventually been challenged and defeated by young people," Singh wrote.
The AAP MP further alleged that the arrests of Ashutosh Pandey and Pankaj Pandey were made solely because they were raising issues concerning students.
Calling the action a direct attack on democratic values, he said the government appeared more concerned with imprisoning students than addressing their grievances.
"If young people raise questions about their future and are treated like criminals, it sends a dangerous message for democracy," he said.
Sanjay Singh also announced that the public awareness campaign launched against examination paper leaks and alleged recruitment irregularities would now expand across Uttar Pradesh.
He said the Aam Aadmi Party would engage with students, youth and parents in all districts of the state, gathering their suggestions and complaints.
The campaign, he said, would continue until fair examination systems are ensured, recruitment processes become fully transparent, those responsible for paper leaks are given stringent punishment, and justice is delivered to affected candidates....
