94% hearings linked to SIR discrepancies completed in U'khand
Dehradun, Sept. 1 -- Around 94% of hearings related to voter discrepancies and "unmapped" electors have been completed in Uttarakhand as part of the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, officials said on Monday.
Chief electoral officer Uttarakhand BVRC Purushottam reviewed the progress of the SIR exercise during a video conference with district magistrates here on Monday and directed officials to ensure that Forms 6, 7 and 8 are processed and disposed of within a week.
During the meeting, district magistrates presented district-wise reports on claims and objections received during the revision process, along with details of cases in which hearings were pending.
Officials said notices had been issued to 2.43 million out of the 7.133 million electors included in the draft electoral roll because of mapping-related issues or discrepancies in voter data. Around 110 thousand voters could not appear for their hearings for various reasons. Officials said these voters would be given another opportunity to present their cases so that no eligible elector is excluded from the final electoral roll.
Purushottam directed all district magistrates to ensure that hearings on claims and objections are conducted within the prescribed timelines and strictly in accordance with electoral rules. He also sought detailed district-wise information from District Election Officers on the status of Forms 6, 7 and 8 and instructed officials to ensure their disposal within the coming week. The SIR exercise is aimed at verifying electoral roll entries, addressing discrepancies and ensuring that eligible voters are included in the revised rolls while ineligible or duplicate entries are identified through the prescribed verification process. Additional Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Kishan Singh Negi, Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Mastu Das and district magistrates of all districts attended the meeting....
