Lucknow, Aug. 24 -- Residents of 94 high-rise residential complexes in Lucknow that have already been connected to piped natural gas (PNG) will no longer be supplied domestic LPG cylinders from next month, as the authorities move to enforce the Centre's policy of discontinuing duplicate LPG connections where PNG is available. The move is significant for thousands of households living in the identified high-rises, as residents will have to rely on PNG for cooking fuel. However, they will not necessarily lose their LPG connection documents permanently. Residents will be allowed to retain the relevant LPG papers/transfer documents so that they can restore or obtain an LPG connection if they subsequently move to a location where PNG is not available. The decision comes against the backdrop of the LPG supply constraints witnessed earlier this year following disruptions in international energy supplies. Director Commercial Green Gas Limited RK Behra said ,"The policy was subsequently given a more flexible dimension. Under the LPG (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026, notified on May 25, consumers obtaining PNG were given two options: terminate the LPG connection within 30 days or obtain a transfer voucher for restoration of the LPG connection in a non-PNG area. The latter provision specifically takes care of transferable employees, migrant households, tenants and others who may subsequently shift to an area without PNG infrastructure." It is this provision that will allow residents of the 94 Lucknow high-rises to retain documentary proof of their LPG connection while shifting their primary cooking-fuel requirement to PNG....
