PRAYAGRAJ, May 21 -- An eight-year-old girl was allegedly murdered in Prayagraj's Byohara village, within the Industrial Area police station limits, over a dispute involving just Rs.5. Police on Tuesday night arrested four accused, including the victim's minor cousin brother who is suspected of carrying out the fatal attack. All four accused were sent to jail on Wednesday after completing due legal procedures. During questioning, the main accused--identified as the victim's cousin brother, who is reportedly addicted to consuming bhang--allegedly detailed the motive behind the crime. He told police the dispute stemmed from a minor transaction: he had given the victim Rs.20 to buy three Rs.5 packets of snacks. She returned with goods worth Rs.15 but allegedly did not return the remaining Rs.5. Enraged over the issue, the minor, who was under the influence of bhang at the time, allegedly attacked Jhanvi repeatedly with a sickle that was inside the room. Police officials reported that the body bore around 12 injuries including on the head, stomach, back, chest and hands, allegedly inflicted by the sharp weapon. The brutality of the attack sent shockwaves through the village. The victim, identified as Jhanvi, daughter of mason Sunil Chaudhary, was missing since the evening of May 18. After her family failed to trace her, police reached the village later that night after receiving information about the incident. During the search, the girl's blood-soaked body was recovered, concealed inside a heap of straw in a room at the house of her neighbour and relative, Munnilal.
