Haridwar, Sept. 30 -- With the Ardh Kumbh fair approaching, key projects by the Mela administration in Haridwar include the construction of a new 72-metre-long Ganga ghat along the main channel of the river at Ved Niketan in the northern part of Haridwar, officials said. The ghat is being developed with the objective of providing additional bathing and ritual space to pilgrims and reducing pressure on the main Ganga ghats at Brahmakund Har-ki-Pauri, they added. While around half a dozen ghats are being developed along the Ganga Canal for the Ardh Kumbh fair, the Ved Niketan ghat is being constructed directly on the main Ganga river. Officials said its location would make it particularly important for pilgrims staying in and around the northern parts of Haridwar.
