70-year-old robbed in Nainital, 2 held: Police
Haldwani, Sept. 2 -- Bhimtal police have arrested two men in connection with the robbery of a pair of gold earrings from a 70-year-old woman allegedly on the pretext of offering her a lift on a motorcycle, police said on Tuesday.
The police, acting on the directions of Nainital SSP Manjunath TC, arrested the two accused, identified as Sujit Das (27) and Kundan Biswas (22), from Shakti Farm in Sitarganj, Udham Singh Nagar district, on Monday. The stolen gold earrings and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime were also recovered from their possession.
According to police, Bhuvan Chandra Palariya, former village head of Bhaursa, reported that an elderly woman from his village had been robbed on August 19. The woman was allegedly approached by two men riding a motorcycle who offered her a lift. During the journey, the men allegedly snatched her gold earrings before fleeing from the spot.
A case was registered at Bhimtal police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Taking note of the incident, SSP Dr Manjunath T.C. directed SP (Crime) Dr Jagdish Chandra to ensure that the case was solved at the earliest and the accused arrested. A police team was subsequently constituted under the leadership of SHO Rajesh Kumar Yadav.
Investigators examined CCTV footage from the area where the incident occurred as well as footage from several locations in Haldwani. Police said technical evidence collected during the investigation helped them identify the suspects and trace their movements....
