LUCKNOW, Aug. 28 -- The Uttar Pradesh government will give 62,028 working teachers who failed to qualify the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026 another opportunity to clear the examination when it is held next year, officials said. The decision is being taken in compliance with the Supreme Court's direction that in-service teachers be given an opportunity for at least three years to qualify the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), officials said. The move follows the declaration of the UPTET 2026 results by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) on Wednesday night. Examination data showed that 2,68,799 in-service teachers appeared for the test, of whom 2,06,771 qualified, while 62,028 failed to qualify. Director of basic education Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi said the teachers who could not clear the examination this year would be given another opportunity in the next UPTET in accordance with the Supreme Court's directions. The proposed opportunity is significant as the affected teachers are already serving in government schools and had appeared for the UPTET to fulfil the eligibility requirement for continuation in service. The government's decision will give them additional time to prepare and qualify, officials said. Of the teachers who appeared for the primary-level examination, 93,387 of 1,22,405 qualified, while 29,018 failed. At the upper-primary level, 1,13,384 of 1,46,394 working teachers qualified, while 33,010 failed. The overall qualification rate among working teachers was 76.29% at the primary level and 77.45% at the upper-primary level. The UPTET 2026 was conducted on July 2, 3 and 4 in five shifts across 955 centres in 60 districts. With the state government planning to provide another opportunity through next year's UPTET, the 62,028 teachers who failed to qualify this year will get another chance to meet the prescribed eligibility requirement and continue in service, officials said....
