60 high-res cams in Dhela Recuse Centre to monitor big cats
Haldwani, May 17 -- The Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) has upgraded the Dhela Rescue Centre with a high-tech surveillance system to remotely monitor injured and man-eating big cats, forest officials said.
A total of 60 high-resolution cameras were installed across the rescue centre, enabling officials to observe animal behaviour and monitor emergencies in real time from the Corbett headquarters in Ramnagar.
CTR director Dr Saket Badola said the Dhela Rescue Centre is located around 20 km from the headquarters, requiring frequent visits by officials for surveillance, emergencies and routine health assessments.
"Live feeds from the surveillance system will now be directly available at the headquarters, saving time and improving monitoring quality," Badola said.
The rescue centre has 30 enclosures currently housing 14 tigers and 16 leopards. Two cameras have been installed in each enclosure to enable detailed monitoring.
Additional cameras have been placed at the entry gate and outer premises to strengthen security and prevent intrusions.
Badola said wildlife often changes behaviour in the presence of humans, making remote observation more effective.
"Officials will now be able to study natural behaviour patterns, monitor feeding habits and identify whether animals require immediate medical attention," he said....
