Lucknow, Aug. 22 -- The state capital experienced a heavy downpour on Friday evening, leaving commuters stranded. Waterlogging was a common occurrence across the city, slowing down traffic and causing jams at a number of city crossings. The Amausi observatory recorded 56.4 mm of rain between 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm and a total rainfall of 58.7 mm from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm, said Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at Regional Meteorological Centre. He said the rain was intense for nearly two hours i.e. between 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm in most parts of the city. The forecast for Lucknow is generally cloudy sky with a few spells of thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 33 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively. The day and night temperatures in Lucknow on Friday were 35.5 and 27.6 degrees Celsius. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow has predicted heavy rainfall in the southern part of UP, along with sudden spells of thunderstorms in central UP. On August 22, significant rainfall is expected in Purvanchal, with isolated heavy rainfall in the southern part of Vindhya region and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Subsequently, rainfall is expected to gradually decrease due to increased activity of Westerly Winds, the weatherman said. Meanwhile, the rain deficit in the state capital reduced to just 12%. Lucknow received 409.7 mm rainfall since June 1 against a long period of average 493.7 mm.
