55-yr-old injured in tiger attack in Kheri forest range, condition stable
LAKHIMPUR KHERI, June 30 -- A 55-year-old man was attacked and injured by a tiger in the Maheshpur forest beat of the Mohammadi Range under the South Kheri forest division, within the Hyderabad police station area, on Monday.
The victim, identified as Kali Charan, a resident of Udaypur village, was grazing his cattle near a sugarcane field along with other villagers close to the reserved forest when the tiger attacked him.
Tapas Mihir, divisional forest officer (DFO), south Kheri forest division told HT that the tiger, which was hiding in a sugarcane field, attacked Kali Charan while he was grazing cattle, injuring him on the face and shoulder.
Hearing his cries, other villagers rushed to his rescue and managed to drive the tiger away.
DFO visited the spot after the attack and confirmed the involvement of a tiger. He also met the injured man and arranged for his treatment at the district hospital.
Officials said Kali Charan sustained injuries to his abdomen and scratch wounds on his face.
However, his injuries were not serious, and he is reported to be out of danger.
The latest attack comes months after a tiger killed 28-year-old Manoj Kumar, a resident of Nandlalpurwa, in the same forest range on March 16.
In view of the continued movement of big cats in the Mohammadi Range, forest officials have advised residents to remain vigilant, avoid venturing alone near forested and tiger movement areas, and strictly follow safety guidelines....
