524 LPG cylinders worth Rs.17L feared stolen in Jhansi
Jhansi, March 9 -- A truck carrying 524 filled LPG cylinders worth more than Rs.17 lakh has gone missing in Jhansi in a suspected theft case, police said on Sunday. According to a complaint lodged by truck owner Neeraj Kumar Agarwal, a resident of New Roy Ganj in Sipri Bazar, his trucks have been hired by Bharat Petroleum to transport refilled LPG cylinders from its plant at Karari on Gwalior Road to different destinations.
One of the trucks was loaded with 524 cylinders on March 2 for delivery to Kanpur Dehat. The driver reportedly parked the vehicle outside the plant due to the Holi festival and went to his home.
On Friday, Agarwal checked the GPS location of the truck and found that it had moved away from the plant. When he contacted the driver, he was surprised to learn that the driver was still at home. After searching for the vehicle, the truck was found abandoned and empty near the Parichha Thermal Power Plant on Kanpur Road. All the LPG cylinders were missing. The GPS device of the truck had also been damaged.
Following the incident, a case was registered against an unknown person at Sipri Bazar police station on Saturday.
Station house officer Jai Prakash Chaubey said the police are investigating the case and examining CCTV footage while carrying out surveillance.
However, no trace of the missing cylinders had been found till Sunday.
Senior officials of Bharat Petroleum, who did not wish to be named, said that a demand note of Rs.17,35,051.50 has been issued against the transporter for the 524 filled cylinders that did not reach their destination....
