50 booked over threats to surgeon, vandalism
Dehradun, Oct. 26 -- The Dehradun Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against nearly 50 people for allegedly barging into the residence of renowned plastic surgeon and Padma Shri recipient Dr Yogi Aeron, vandalising the property, and threatening him.
Dr Aeron (87) lives with his wife and caretakers at his estate, Jangal Mangal, in Dehradun's Kuthal Gate area. The incident took place around 6 am on October 20.
The accused were booked under Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 191(2) (rioting), Section 324(4) (mischief causing property damage), Section 329(3) (criminal trespass and house-trespass), Section 351(3) (criminal intimidation involving death threats), and Section 352 (intentional insult to provoke a breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the complaint, a group of nearly 50 people allegedly forced entry into the premises through the back door.
"The staff initially thought they had come for a visit, but they soon began hurling abuses and creating a ruckus. They started taking items from the property. When we tried to stop them, they threatened us with death before fleeing. We are yet to assess the full extent of the missing goods. They also vandalised the property before leaving," Dr Aeron alleged in his complaint.
Rajpur SHO PD Bhatt said, "We have registered an FIR in the matter, and our investigation is underway."
Dr Kush Aeron, Dr Yogi Aeron's son, alleged that the incident appeared to be the work of an organised land-grabbing syndicate.
"We have an ongoing property dispute with a private individual, which is currently sub judice in court. However, an incident of this nature has never occurred before. These suspects appear to belong to a gang whose modus operandi is to illegally occupy private properties. A friend informed me that a similar incident happened with them as well," Dr Kush said.
In January 2020, Dr Aeron was conferred the Padma Shri by the Government of India for his distinguished service in medicine.
For over 25 years, he has been treating patients with disfigured faces free of cost....
