LUCKNOW, Sept. 12 -- Around 5,000 crime scenes were being scientifically protected and processed every month in Uttar Pradesh, with evidence collected, packaged and sent to forensic laboratories, said DGP Rajeev Krishna said Thursday. Addressing the concluding ceremony of the sixth Crime Scene Management training batch at the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Krishna said scientific and evidence-based investigation was crucial for effective policing and strengthening public trust. The six-week programme, held from August 3 to September 11, trained more than 600 police personnel from constable to inspector ranks in crime scene management, evidence preservation and collection, forensic techniques and their use in investigation. The DGP stressed proper photography and videography of crime scenes, evidence labelling and packaging and strict adherence to the chain of custody. He urged trainees to apply their knowledge, skills and attitude in the field, saying physical and scientific evidence could reduce dependence on witnesses and help establish the link between offenders and crimes....
