Dehradun, Aug. 11 -- Three earthquakes of varying intensity struck Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi and Tehri Garhwal districts in the early hours of Monday, with the strongest tremor measuring 4.2 magnitude, according to data from the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The 4.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Uttarkashi district at 1.21 am at a depth of 10 km, the NCS said. Another earthquake of 2.2 magnitude occurred in the district at 1.45 am at a depth of 5 km. A third tremor, measuring 2.0 magnitude, was recorded in neighbouring Tehri district at 2.19 am at a depth of 5 km, according to the NCS. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property following the three tremors. The latest seismic activity comes amid a series of minor earthquakes recorded across Uttarakhand in recent months, particularly in districts located in the higher reaches of the Himalayan region. Earlier on April 19, three minor earthquakes struck Bageshwar district in quick succession. According to NCS data, the first tremor, measuring 3.1 magnitude, was recorded at 10.32 am, with its epicentre in Bageshwar district at a depth of 5 km. A second earthquake of 2.6 magnitude was recorded at 10.46 am, also at a depth of 5 km, while a third tremor, measuring 2.8 magnitude, occurred at 11.31 am at the same depth. Earlier that month, on April 5, Bageshwar recorded an earthquake measuring 3.7 magnitude at around 11.47 am. Uttarakhand has witnessed several minor seismic events over the past year. On November 30, a 3.7-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Chamoli district, while Bageshwar recorded a 3.6-magnitude tremor on November 9.
