4 held for gang rape of 25-yr-old woman in Rudrapur, say police
Haldwani, Feb. 27 -- The police have arrested four people, including the brother-in-law, for the alleged gang rape of a 25-year-old woman in Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district. One of the accused is undergoing treatment at the district hospital under police custody, the police said.
Ajay Ganpati, the district senior superintendent of police, in a press breifing on Thursday said, "On February 22, a 25-year-old woman resident of Bhadaipura was allegedly gang-raped by three men who also made an obscene video of her and attacked her with a knife. The incident occurred on Sunday night when she was returning home from the Saras Mela with her brother-in-law. Three people committed the crime in a deserted area."
The police registered an FIR against the accused under sections 351(3) and 70(1) of the BNS and began an investigation.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the perpetrators of the gang rape were Raja Rastogi a resident of Atta Chakki Mod Khera Basti, Vishal Kumar alias Bittu a resident of Bhadaipura and Abhay Saxena a resident of Ward 14, who along with brother-in-law had committed the rape. Police considered the brother-in-law the main conspirator. "The fourth accused in the gang rape, Abhay Saxena alias China, had consumed poison in a train coach at the Najibabad-Nagina (Uttar Pradesh) railway station on February 24, fearing arrest.
Meanwhille, in another incident, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two persons in Kathgodam in Nainital district on Wednesday. The accused allegedly gave the minor alcohol and then gang-raped her. Police have arrested both accused under the Pocso Act. Both are residents of Almora district, police said. Police identified accused as Vimal Mishar said, Mohit (20) and Pradeep (24) residents of Naugaon in the Danya police station area of Almora district....
