LUCKNOW, Aug. 20 -- Four government officials were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly accepting bribe in three separate trap operations conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Corruption Organisation in Sambhal, Gorakhpur and Farrukhabad, according to a press release issued by the UP Police Headquarters. The operations were carried out by the organisation's Moradabad, Gorakhpur and Kanpur Nagar units on the basis of complaints alleging demands for illegal gratification for carrying out official work, the press release said. In Sambhal, the Moradabad unit arrested revenue lekhpal Aman Kumar, posted at Gununnaur tehsil, while allegedly accepting Rs.10,000, the release said. Kumar was allegedly demanding the money from Mahipal Singh, a resident of Patei Nasir village in Rajpura police station area, for measurement and demarcation of his agricultural land. A trap team led by inspector Krishna Avatar caught Kumar allegedly accepting the bribe near Bhakrauli crossroads on the road towards Babrala, according to the release. In Gorakhpur, the organisation's Gorakhpur unit arrested senior accounts auditor Shah Nawaz Alam, posted at the office of the Joint Director of Education, Seventh Division, Gorakhpur, while allegedly accepting Rs.10,000. The release said Alam had allegedly demanded the money from complainant Divyanshu Pandey for processing payment related to encashment of earned leave. A team led by inspector Shivmohan Yadav laid the trap at the office of the Joint Director of Education and caught Alam allegedly accepting the bribe. In the third operation, the Kanpur Nagar unit arrested two electricity department employees-junior engineer Ajit Rajput and sub-station operator Chandra Bhan-while allegedly accepting Rs.10,000 at the electricity sub-station in Makutganj, Farrukhabad, the release said. The complaint in the case was lodged by Mansharam, a resident of Gugaura village in Kamalganj police station area, who alleged that the two officials were demanding money for preparing an estimate for an electricity connection. A trap team led by inspector Ram Asare Tripathi caught the two employees while allegedly accepting the bribe, according to the UP Police Headquarters release. The three operations resulted in the arrest of four officials and the alleged recovery of a total of Rs.30,000 in bribe money.
