30-year-old man arrested for murdering colleague in Lucknow
LUCKNOW, May 23 -- A 30-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly murdering his colleague-with whom he was reportedly involved in an extramarital affair--in Gomti Nagar area of state capital, police said, adding that the accused was arrested within hours of the case being reported.
"The accused, identified as Deepanshu Singh (30), and the victim, Nisha Devi, had been working together at a private hospital in Gomti Nagar since 2024. Both were married, but had allegedly developed a close relationship that later turned bitter following repeated disputes over their future together," said Gomti Nagar station house officer (SHO) BC Tiwari.
According to police, tensions escalated after Deepanshu got married in January this year. Police said Nisha was allegedly pressuring him to leave his wife and live with her, while the accused wanted to continue with his married life. The disagreement reportedly became the main reason behind frequent arguments between the two.
"The matter came to light on May 22 after Ramdas, a resident of Gomti Nagar, approached the police alleging that his daughter-in-law, Nisha Devi, wife of Deepak Kumar, had been murdered by Deepanshu Singh," Tiwari stated.
"During the investigation, police found that another heated argument had taken place on May 19 at Nisha's rented accommodation in Gwari village under the Vikas Khand-4 area of Gomti Nagar. In a fit of rage during the dispute, the accused allegedly strangled her to death," the SHO said. After the incident, the accused allegedly locked the room and fled from the spot. "Police later formed multiple teams and launched a search operation. Using technical surveillance and local inputs, officers tracked down and arrested the accused on Friday afternoon," SHO said, adding, "Further legal action is underway in the case."htc...
