3 of family killed, four critically injured after SUV crashes into divider
Gorakhpur, May 9 -- Three members of a family were killed and four others seriously injured after an SUV rammed into a divider while trying to avoid hitting an animal near the Mangwana culvert under the jurisdiction of Gagha Police Station late Thursday night, police said on Friday.
According to officials, the victims were returning from a wedding function in Hari Khora village under the Khajni police station area when the accident occurred.
The driver reportedly swerved suddenly to save an animal that appeared on the road, causing the SUV to lose control and crash into the divider.
Station house officer (SHO) Rajkumar Saroj identified the deceased as Unnati Tripathi, 18, Shivam, 21, and Vijay Tiwari, 65. Police said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
The injured were identified as Shashank Pandey, 62, Narmada Devi, 70, Sadhana Tiwari, 35, and driver Anil Tripathi, 21. All four were initially taken to a nearby health centre and later referred to the district hospital after their condition worsened.
Local residents, along with police personnel, launched a rescue operation shortly after the accident and pulled the victims out of the damaged vehicle. Police said all the occupants of the SUV were relatives who had attended the wedding ceremony.
SHO Rajkumar Saroj said, "A case has been registered and the injured are undergoing treatment. Further investigation, including the possibility of overspeeding, is underway."...
