VARANASI, March 1 -- In a major green initiative, over three lakh saplings will be planted across 350 bighas in Sujabad Domari near the Ganga in Varanasi on March 1 to develop an urban forest using the Miyawaki technique. The plantation drive is being spearheaded by the Varanasi Nagar Nigam (VNN). Officials said the project is envisioned as the "Lungs of Varanasi" for the clean oxygen it will generate in the coming years. Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari and Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal shared details of the initiative on Friday. The mayor said the urban forest will not only improve air quality but also emerge as a model of economic self-reliance.
