3 killed, one injured in two separate house collapses
VARANASI, Aug. 21 -- Three people were killed and one injured in two separate incidents of house collapse in different areas of Mirzapur district on Wednesday.
In the first incident, a couple died after being buried under the debris of their mud house which collapsed in Rajauha village, under the Patehara police outpost area on Wednesday night in Mirzapur, police said. The second incident took place in Bhabhani Thapanwa village of the district, police said.
According to a police official, Ramashankar (70) and his wife Ashok Kumari (65) had gone to sleep in their mud house after dinner. Intermittent rain during the night caused the house to collapse suddenly, trapping them both underneath.
Hearing the sound of the collapse, their son Ajay-who was sleeping in a nearby tin shed-rushed over and found his parents buried in the debris. He raised an alarm and called the villagers for help, said the officer who took out the couple after about half an hour of effort. They were rushed to the Marihan CHC where doctors declared them dead.
In another incident, a woman died while her husband was injured in a house collapse.
Hiralal (65) lived with his wife, Kewali Devi (60), in a mud house on their farm in Babhani Thapanwa village in the Marihan police station area. A wall collapsed at around 1am on Wednesday, burying them under the debris. In the morning, villagers pulled them out and rushed them to the hospital, where Kewali Devi was pronounced dead. Hiralal, in critical condition, was referred to the Community Health Centre, Marihan where he is under treatment....
