Lucknow/Lakhimpur Kheri, June 17 -- Three people, including a married couple and their niece, were killed while three others sustained serious injuries after a Maruti WagonR rammed into a tractor-trolley on the Lucknow-Delhi National Highway (NH-30) near Chapartala village under Maigalganj Kotwali limits in Lakhimpur Kheri district in the early hours of Tuesday. Police said the accident occurred around 3 am when the car, carrying six occupants, was returning to Sultanpur from Haridwar. The vehicle reportedly crashed into a tractor-trolley moving in the same direction. The impact was so severe that the car's front portion was completely crushed, trapping the occupants inside. Maigalganj Kotwali in-charge Sanjiv Singh said police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation after receiving information about the accident. Local residents also assisted in rescuing the victims from the mangled vehicle. All six occupants were taken to the Pasgawan Community Health Centre, where three of them were declared brought dead. The remaining three were referred to a district hospital in neighbouring Shahjahanpur due to the seriousness of their injuries. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Yadvendra Yadav identified the deceased as Vimal Singh Patel (40), his wife Vandana (30), residents of Shastri Nagar locality in Sultanpur, and their niece Alikhya Verma (22), a resident of Gopalpur in Sultanpur district. The injured were identified as the couple's son Veer Patel (14), daughter Rubi (15), and Vimal Singh's brother-in-law Ayush Singh (27). Their condition was stated to be serious. Police said the exact circumstances leading to the accident were yet to be established. Investigators are examining whether poor visibility, driver fatigue or other factors contributed to the crash.
