3 held for theft in 2 separate incidents
Rudrapur, March 17 -- Three people have been arrested in Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts in connection with two separate cases involving theft of bells and cash from temples in Chaurgalia and Rudrapur, an officer aware of the matter said on Monday, adding that the stolen items have been recovered from the accused. In the first case, Pankaj Gaur, a resident of Rampura Colony in Rudrapur, informed Pantnagar police on February 26 that two thieves had broken open six "dan patras" (donation boxes) at the Atariya temple and stole cash. Police registered an FIR under section 305(d) of the BNS and launched an investigation.
"Police arrested Ramkishan, 18, a resident of Transit Camp Colony, on March 6 and recovered Rs.8,108 in cash from him. His associate Rohit Lal, 18, also from Transit Camp, was arrested on Sunday. An illegal pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from him," said SSP Udham Singh Nagar Ajay Ganpati.
In another case, Nainital police arrested two accused on Sunday for allegedly stealing bells, a kalash and cash from a temple in Chaurgalia.
Ashish Belwal of Chaurgalia had lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday regarding the theft. Acting on the complaint, police identified and arrested Kunwar Pal, 24, of Chaurgalia and Nitin Kumar, 19, of Kathgodam. Police said they recovered 20 brass bells, a copper kalash and Rs.1,580 in cash from the accused. The accused were produced before a court on Monday and were subsequently sent to jail, police added....
