PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 27 -- Police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the abduction and murder of 33-year-old Monu Kushwaha, who was allegedly kidnapped and killed by a man and his nephew in revenge for the death of the accused's daughter. The victim's body was allegedly thrown into the Yamuna near Mahila Ghat in Kaushambi. Police arrested three people in connection with the crime, including Nek Kumar, a resident of Kura village under Saraikhil police station, his nephew Puneet Maurya and Nek Kumar's alleged female associate Khushbu Maurya of Gulakaiyapur under Sandipan Ghat police station. Two cars allegedly used in the abduction were also recovered. Monu, a native of Mahgaon in Kaushambi, worked as a part-time driver. His younger brother, Raj Kumar, had married Nek Kumar's daughter in a love marriage around one-and-a-half years ago. On August 10, Nek Kumar's daughter was found hanging at her matrimonial home. A dowry death case was subsequently registered, and Raj Kumar, his father Mahesh Prasad and mother Rani Devi were arrested and sent to jail. Monu, his wife Sona and sister Radha were also named in the case. On August 19, Monu was allegedly abducted by a group of car-borne men near a sweet shop close to the Puramufti police station. His maternal uncle Kamlesh Kumar lodged a complaint of abduction at the Puramufti police station on August 20. With no trace of Monu, his family members staged a protest at the police station on Tuesday, accusing the police of laxity. The investigation was subsequently intensified, leading to the arrest of Nek Kumar and Puneet Maurya near Kusuwan railway crossing on Wednesday. Khushbu Maurya was also arrested for allegedly helping in the abduction. During interrogation, Nek Kumar allegedly confessed to abducting and killing Monu to avenge his daughter's death, police said. According to police, the accused killed Monu after abducting him and dumped his body into the Yamuna near Mahila Ghat. Police and PAC personnel were searching the river for Monu's body based on the accused's information. Police also received information about the involvement of some other people in the crime and were conducting raids to arrest them.
