3 dead, 1 injured as suv falls into Kumaon gorge
Rudrapur, March 16 -- Three men died and one was injured when their SUV plunged into a 30-metre-deep gorge in Pithoragarh district on Sunday, police said, raising the Kumaon region's road accident death toll to six-including two women-over the past 48 hours.
"We rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident along with personnel from the revenue department and the SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund). The occupants were brought up from the gorge to the road, but two of them had died on the spot," said Neeraj Chauhan, in-charge of the Madkot police outpost.
Police said the Innova was travelling from Pithoragarh to Munsyari when the driver lost control near Umargarh in the Bangapani area, sending the vehicle tumbling about 30 metres into the gorge. Four people were aboard.
The deceased were identified as Lachhu Negi, 30, Ayush Pant, 28, and Ankit Pandey, 27, all residents of Pithoragarh....
