Haridwar, July 23 -- Three people were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of two sadhus, a day after their bodies were found buried in a forest in Pathri, said police. The accused were identified as Ankur Giri (42), a priest at the Pathreshwar Mahadev temple, and his associates Ashu Saini (37) and Ram Milan (38). District SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar said they were arrested from the Katha Peer forest after extensive surveillance operations by a joint team of special task force officers and local police. Investigators said the probe indicated that Ankur Giri allegedly felt professionally threatened by the two victims, identified as Paras Giri and Sewa Giri, and subsequently conspired to murder them with his associates.Paras and Sewa Giri were subsequently allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons while they slept late on July 18. After allegedly killing the two sadhus, the accused buried their bodies in a nearby field, police said. They also allegedly burnt clothes and bloodstained mattresses in an attempt to destroy evidence. Investigators also alleged that the accused threatened Uttam Jha, a sevayat at the temple, against informing the police about the missing sadhus.
