Mussoorie, Oct. 9 -- Light to moderate rain across Uttarakhand in the past 24 hours left 29 roads blocked by landslides and debris on Thursday, while India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for October 9 and 10, forecasting heavy rain at isolated places in three districts. The state received 8.3 mm of rainfall against a normal of 1 mm during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday, registering an excess of 761%. Pithoragarh recorded the highest rainfall among the districts at 24.8 mm, against its normal of 2.1 mm. Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar received 18.6 mm and 18.1 mm respectively. Bageshwar recorded 11.4 mm of rain against a normal of 0.2 mm. Dehradun received 6.8 mm against normal 1 mm. IMD Dehradun centre has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Dehradun, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts on Friday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are also likely at isolated places across the state. Intermittent rain over the past 24 hours blocked 29 routes across several districts, with restoration work under way. Almora and Chamoli reported seven blocked roads due to landslips and accumulation of mud and debris. Eight roads were blocked in Nainital, while two routes remained blocked in Pithoragarh.
