21 injured as double-decker bus overturns on Ganga e-way in Badaun
MEERUT, June 20 -- At least 21 passengers were injured after a double-decker bus travelling from Varanasi to Delhi overturned on the Ganga Expressway near Nauli Harnathpur in Badaun district on Friday morning. The bus reportedly lost control before flipping over, triggering panic among the passengers.
Police and ambulance teams rushed to the accident site soon after receiving information and launched a rescue operation. The injured were shifted to the community health centre (CHC) in Wazirganj, where doctors provided primary treatment. Those with serious injuries were later referred to a medical college for advanced care.
The accident briefly disrupted traffic on the expressway. Authorities deployed a crane to lift the overturned bus and remove it from the roadway, after which normal traffic movement was restored.
According to passengers, 32 people had boarded the bus in Varanasi and were travelling to Noida. Of them, 21 sustained injuries in the accident. Most of them were asleep when the accident occurred.
They further claimed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was driving at a high speed.
They also claimed that he had been operating the bus continuously since Varanasi, even though long-distance routes generally require two drivers....
