2 women seek police protection after 'live-in' video goes viral
MEERUT, June 25 -- A video featuring two young women (aged 19-20 years) from Uttar Pradesh has sparked widespread discussion across social media and local communities after the duo announced they are living together by mutual consent and appealed for police protection against potential backlash from their families and society.
In the viral video, the women from humble background -one from Shamli district and the other from Bareilly - purportedly state that they have shared a close relationship for a long time. Following the video's circulation, police have initiated a preliminary inquiry into the matter.
"The matter has not formally reached us so far. If any request for security is received, it will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken as per legal provisions," said superintendent of police NP Singh.

The case has also sparked discussion about its legal implications. Advocate Prashant Pundhir noted that if both women are adults, they are entitled to live together by choice under Indian law.
