Bharatpur/Jaipur, July 6 -- Two traders were shot and robbed by unidentified assailants at separate locations in Bharatpur city within a span of about 30 minutes on Saturday night, police said on Sunday. In the first incident, trader Nishu Mittal and his father Pramod Mittal, residents of Chandwari Colony, were returning home after closing their grocery shop. Near the Power House intersection, three motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted them and opened fire. The attackers allegedly snatched a bag containing Rs.50,000 and fled the spot. According to police, despite Pramod Mittal handing over the bag, the assailants fired three rounds before escaping. One bullet struck the 50-year-old, leaving him seriously injured. He was admitted to the district hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. About half an hour later, another trader, Chandra Bhan (45), a resident of Subhash Nagar Colony, was targeted on the Jaipur-Mathura bypass. According to police, Chandra Bhan had returned from Mathura after collecting Rs.5 lakh from relatives for the purchase of a plot in the city. Unidentified assailants stopped him on the bypass and looted the cash-filled bag. When he resisted, they opened fire and fled, police said. He was initially taken to the district hospital and later referred to Jaipur after his condition was reported to be critical. Additional SP Dharmendra Yadav said police teams rushed to the spots after receiving information about the incidents and barricades were set up across the city to trace the attackers. "Two traders were looted and shot at separate locations. Police are examining CCTV footage to identify the assailants, and they will be arrested soon," he said. Reacting to the incidents, Former CM Ashok Gehlot said on social media post that "law and order has completely collapsed in Rajasthan."
