2 killed, three injured as speeding bus crashes into e-rickshaw in Pilibhit
Meerut, June 5 -- Two people were killed and three others injured in a major road accident on the Puranpur-Maigalganj Highway in Pilibhit district early Thursday morning after a speeding private bus rammed into an e-rickshaw carrying passengers, police said.
The accident occurred at around 5am near the Ghunghchai turn when the e-rickshaw, which was transporting passengers from Puranpur, came under the wheels of a fast-moving private bus. The impact was so severe that the e-rickshaw was completely wrecked, leaving all its occupants seriously injured.
The injured were identified as Baburam (55), a resident of Balrampur; his 13-year-old grandson Vivek; nine-year-old granddaughter Meenakshi; Surajpal (40), a resident of Kadheya Kanpara village; and Mehboob Ali (60), the e-rickshaw driver and a resident of Rajiv Nagar locality in Puranpur. Following the accident, personnel from the Ghunghchai police station and local residents rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations.
The injured were immediately shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Puranpur for treatment.
Doctors at the hospital declared Surajpal dead on arrival. Baburam and driver Mehboob Ali, who had sustained critical injuries, were referred to the district hospital after receiving primary treatment.
