MEERUT, July 26 -- Two members of a family were killed and nine others injured after a speeding milk-laden pickup truck hit the car in which they were travelling in Badaun district's Bisauli town late on Friday night, police said on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Munshilal, 36, of Badaun's Dahemu village and his sister-in-law Tori Devi, 65. The accident occurred when the family from Bain village was on its way to Fakawali village in Asafpur area in the district to perform some religious ritual, they added. DSP Anshuman Srivastava confirmed the accidents and two deaths. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was damaged beyond recognition, trapping its occupants inside. After hearing screams, locals rushed to the scene and launched rescue efforts. Police and ambulance teams were alerted immediately. After receiving initial treatment, four critically injured people were referred to the district hospital, while the remaining injured are undergoing treatment at a community health centre. Hospital authorities said the condition of several of the injured remains serious. The pickup driver fled the accident site with the vehicle immediately after the crash. Police have launched a search to trace the accused and are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to identify both the vehicle and its driver. Senior officials visited the accident site.
