2 held for assaulting cops, obstructing duty
Rudrapur, Aug. 3 -- Two men were arrested in Udham Singh Nagar district's Rudrapur after they allegedly assaulted police personnel, obstructed official duty and issued death threats to officers who had reached the spot following a complaint of children being assaulted near a lake, police said on Sunday.
According to SSP Ajay Ganpati, the incident came to light on August 1 after information was received through Dial-112 that some individuals were assaulting children near a lake and had also misbehaved with the police team that had arrived at the scene.
Ganpati said that soon after the officers reached the area, two men allegedly began scuffling with the personnel, physically assaulting them, obstructing them from performing their official duties and issuing death threats.
The police team detained both accused at the spot and brought them to Kotwali Rudrapur for further action, he said.
Ganpati said the arrested accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, 27, a resident of Preet Vihar in Rudrapur, originally from Punjab, and Surjit Kumar, 28, a resident of Jahanabad police station limits in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh.
