17-yr-old electrocuted during Moharram procession
PRAYAGRAJ, June 27 -- A 17-year-old boy was electrocuted after allegedly coming into contact with a live electricity pole during a Moharram procession near Sevai Mandi, close to the Clock Tower in Prayagraj's old city, in the early hours of Friday.
The incident occurred around 5 am when large crowds had gathered in the Chowk Kotwali area to witness the procession. The victim, Mohammad Hamza, son of Mohammad Qasim and a resident of Bahadurganj area of Hatia, had also gone there to watch the procession.
According to police, light rain had begun when Hamza was standing near a roadside electricity pole. The pole allegedly became live during the drizzle, and he suffered a fatal electric shock after coming into contact with it. Bystanders pulled Hamza away from the electricity pole and rushed him to SRN Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police and administrative officials rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident.
Chowk Kotwali station house officer Nitendra Shukla said the pole became live during the light drizzle, leading to the fatal accident. He added that the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and further legal proceedings are underway....
