Rudrapur/Dehradun, May 7 -- A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men in a village in Champawat late on Tuesday, said police on Wednesday. The accused were identified as Vinod Singh Rawat, Navin Singh and Puran Singh Rawat, they added. District superintendent of police Rekha Arya said the Class 10 student had arrived at the village to attend a wedding. Arya said that the matter arose after the girl's father lodged a complaint, which alleged that the girl had left for the wedding at 2.30pm with Vinod Singh Rawat. "When I called her, the phone was unreachable. She called me around 1.28 am, but the call disconnected immediately and the phone was switched off thereafter. I then began searching for her with villagers and police personnel," said the complaint. "We launched a search operation and found the girl locked in a room near a dairy in the village with her hands and legs tied," said Arya, adding that a medical examination subsequently confirmed gang-rape. Police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and Pocso Act against the accused, she added. "Investigation is underway and no arrests have been made so far," she said.
