The cloth shop was built on a drain in Subhash Bazar area within the limits of Mantola police station. DM Manish Bansal and deputy commissioner of police (city) Syed Ali Abbas rushed to the spot.

In Meerut, the southwest monsoon has become fully active, providing much-needed relief from humid weather while causing waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the city. Heavy showers accompanied by strong winds lashed the district on Wednesday morning after the city woke up to overcast skies and cool breeze, marking a significant shift in weather conditions.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meerut received 68.2 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The department has issued a rainfall alert until July 10, forecasting intermittent light to moderate rain across the district, with the possibility of heavy showers at isolated locations over the next few days.
Officials said the persistent rainfall is likely to continue in phases, keeping weather conditions favourable while increasing the risk of localised waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
Agriculture experts also described the rainfall as highly beneficial for the ongoing kharif season.
Adequate rainfall is expected to accelerate the sowing of paddy, maize, pearl millet and other kharif crops, while maintaining sufficient soil moisture that will reduce farmers' dependence on irrigation. Experts believe that if the current pattern of rainfall continues for the next two to three days, the district is likely to witness a strong start to the kharif cropping season, boosting prospects for agricultural productivity....
