LUCKNOW, March 16 -- A 13-year-old girl died after she was allegedly struck in the chest by a cricket bat while playing with neighbourhood children in the Ashiana area on Sunday evening, police said. The incident occurred in Aurangabad Jagir locality around 5 pm when Vaishnavi, 13, was playing near her house with her younger sister and other children. According to family members, Vaishnavi, daughter of Suraj Rajput who works in the iron reinforcement trade, had stepped out to play when a cricket bat allegedly hit her in the chest, after which she suddenly collapsed and fell unconscious. Children present at the spot alerted the family, who rushed her to Lokbandhu Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. Family members said Vaishnavi was a Class IV student and the eldest among two sisters. The family also has a four-month-old baby boy. Chhatrapal Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Ashiana police station, said preliminary information suggests the girl collapsed after being accidentally hit by a bat while playing and legal formalities are being carried out....
