12-yr-old boy dies by suicide after being scolded by mother
PRAYAGRAJ, June 14 -- A 12-year-old boy allegedly died by suicide after being reprimanded by his mother in a village under the Karari police station area of Kaushambi district on Saturday afternoon. Police have launched an investigation and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
According to police and family members, the boy had gone to graze goats in the fields earlier in the day. During that time, he reportedly got into an altercation with some of his companions. When he returned home, his mother scolded him over the incident.
Upset by the reprimand, the boy allegedly went into a room and tightened a belt around his neck. A short while later, when his mother entered the room, she was shocked to find him lying motionless with the belt still around his neck. Her cries for help drew other family members and villagers to the spot.
The family rushed the boy to the medical college hospital, where doctors declared him dead after examination. Police reached the spot and, after completing preliminary investigations, sent the body for postmortem examination. "Preliminary investigation suggests that the boy took the extreme step after being upset over his mother's scolding. He had tightened a belt around his neck. The family has not leveled any allegations against anyone. Further action will be taken if the post-mortem report reveals any other cause of death," said Shivank Singh, DSP, Manjhanpur.
