JAIPUR, May 25 -- The Rajasthan government will launch "Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan" from May 25 to June 5 in the state to promote water conservation through large-scale public participation. Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma will inaugurate the campaign at Bisalpur Dam in Tonk with water worship rituals and an aerial survey of major dams, while departments across the state will organise cleanliness drives, plantation activities, awareness campaigns and restoration of traditional water sources. The campaign is designed not only to focus on cleaning water bodies and plantation drives but also to encourage public participation and make water conservation a people's pledge. To ensure wide outreach, the government has involved panchayats, NGOs, religious organisations, industrialists, youth groups, women's collectives and the general public along with the administration. Considering irregular rainfall patterns and rising water demand in the state, conservation of traditional water sources has been made the core focus of the campaign. The CM will also conduct an aerial survey of the Isarda, Bandh Baretha and Galwa dams. District-level activities under the "Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan" will begin across Rajasthan with worship ceremonies at wells, ponds, stepwells, canals and other water bodies, alongside cleanliness drives, voluntary labour and awareness programmes from villages to district headquarters. The Water Resources Department, with support from farmers, will clean canals and water channels, while new water conservation projects will be launched and completed works inaugurated. Educational institutions will organise "Vande Ganga Prabhat Pheris", essay competitions and awareness activities to encourage students' participation. Rajeevika women's groups will hold kalash yatras, plantation drives and exhibitions of eco-friendly local products. From May 26 onwards, various departments will conduct themed activities. The campaign will conclude on June 5 with plantation drives, anti-plastic awareness programmes and "Jal Gaurav Samman" awards honouring outstanding contributors to water conservation....
