10k construction workers get Rs.18.49-cr aid
Dehradun, Sept. 20 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday transferred financial assistance totalling Rs.18.49 crore to the bank accounts of 10,709 construction workers and their families through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), urging officials to ensure that benefits of welfare schemes reach every eligible worker in a transparent and time-bound manner.
The financial assistance was transferred at an event held at the chief minister's residence under various welfare schemes of the Uttarakhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
Dhami said construction workers played a vital role in the development of the state and directed officials to ensure that workers and their families received benefits related to education, health, nutrition and social security without difficulty.
He also directed officials to coordinate with the health department and ensure proper treatment for workers diagnosed with illnesses during health check-ups.
"Arrangements must be ensured for the treatment of workers diagnosed with illnesses during health check-ups," the chief minister said, according to a statement.
With the festive season approaching, Dhami directed all departments to undertake maximum public convenience and public service activities through their respective schemes. He also called for effective implementation of initiatives concerning the education of workers' children, family nutrition, women's health and workplace health services.
The chief minister stressed the need for transparency in the implementation of welfare schemes and regular monitoring of eligibility verification and district-wise coverage. He said eligible workers living in remote areas should not be deprived of the benefits of government schemes.
According to information shared during the event, the latest DBT transfer covered 95 beneficiaries under maternity and confinement assistance, 177 under post-death assistance, 2,354 under post-marriage assistance for daughters' marriages and 8,083 under educational assistance.
In all, financial assistance was transferred to 10,709 beneficiaries....
