Jaipur, July 29 -- The southwest monsoon regained momentum across Rajasthan on Tuesday, bringing widespread rainfall to several districts and killing an elderly man in Sirohi district. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, forecast another spell of heavy to very heavy rain across the state till August 2. Heavy rain led to flooding and waterlogging across the state. In Udaipur, the Wakal river swelled, cutting off road connectivity to nearby villages. Sikar's Fatehpur town witnessed around half a foot of waterlogging in the main market after a sharp spell of rain. In Sirohi district, a mud house collapsed at Chandrawati following heavy overnight rain on Monday, killing an elderly man. In Chittorgarh's Rashmi area, a boundary wall built just last month at the Roshaneshwar Mahadev temple garden collapsed due to heavy rain. The brief lull in monsoon activity over the past two days had pushed daytime temperatures close to 40 degrees Celsius before rain brought relief. The fresh spell of rain affected several towns on Tuesday. In Alwar, heavy rain around Siliserh Lake submerged roads under more than three feet of water, leaving a car stranded before locals pushed it to safety. According to the IMD, a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal near the West Bengal and north Odisha coast has strengthened, while the monsoon trough has returned to its normal position.
