Lucknow, Aug. 2 -- The Lucknow Police issued 1,359 challans and seized 41 four-wheelers during a six-day late-night enforcement drive against traffic violations across the city, officials said on Saturday. The special checking campaign was conducted from July 26 to 31 between 9.30pm and midnight under the directions of police commissioner Tarun Gauba and the supervision of joint commissioner of police (Law and Order) Babloo Kumar. "The drive targeted motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol, using illegal hooters and black films, speeding, driving on the wrong side, operating vehicles without number plates or valid documents, and making unauthorised modifications to vehicles," Kumar said. Major enforcement points included Qaiserbagh, Hussainganj, Nakhas, Atal Chowk, Telibagh Chauraha, 1090 Chauraha, IT Chauraha, Nishatganj Crossing and Awadh Chauraha, among other prominent intersections. The campaign was carried out simultaneously across all five police zones-West, Central, North, East and South-with deputy commissioners of police leading the operations. Assistant commissioners of police, station house officers, critical corridor in-charges and beat officers set up checkpoints at key intersections, markets, bus stands and other busy locations across the city. Besides enforcement, police personnel also interacted with motorists and spread awareness about traffic regulations, urging them to follow road safety norms. Lucknow Police appealed to citizens not to drive under the influence of alcohol, avoid using mobile phones while driving, refrain from installing black films or illegal hooters on vehicles, and not to make unauthorised modifications to their vehicles. Motorists were also advised to ensure their vehicles have High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), carry valid documents, adhere to speed limits and follow lane discipline and other traffic rules.
