'Yoga for Healthy Ageing': Week-long celebrations begin at Chandra Shekhar Azad Park
PRAYAGRAJ, June 16 -- Ahead of the 12th International Yoga Day, a grand 'Yoga Week' was launched at the Chandra Shekhar Azad Park on Monday. The event jointly organised by the district administration and the AYUSH Department was inaugurated by MLA Guru Prasad Maurya and mayor Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani.
Hundreds of residents, government officials, and yoga enthusiasts took part in a mass yoga session, reflecting strong public enthusiasm for the week-long celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, Kesarwani highlighted this year's theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," and said it promotes the adoption of yoga as a means to lead a disease-free, active, and healthy life at every stage of life.
"Yoga is an ancient and invaluable heritage of India. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it has gained global recognition. Today, people across the world are embracing this way of life rooted in Indian culture. Yoga is not merely a form of exercise; it is a science that fosters harmony between the body, mind, and soul," Kesarwani said.
MLA Maurya highlighted the importance of yoga in modern-day life, stating that it plays a vital role in maintaining-- mental well-being and physical fitness amid rising stress levels and hectic routines. He urged people, particularly the youth, to incorporate yoga into their daily routines rather than limiting its practice to ceremonial occasions.
Regional Ayurvedic and Unani officer Dr Naveen Soni also spoke about the significance of this year's theme, stating that a range of awareness programmes, workshops, and yoga camps will be conducted across the district from June 15 to June 21 as part of the Yoga Week celebrations. During the session, yoga experts Kaushal Kishore, Dr Deepti Yogeshwar, and Arunesh Mitra led participants through a series of yoga asanas, pranayama exercises, and meditation techniques.
The event witnessed participation from a large number of prominent citizens, yoga practitioners, AYUSH department officials, medical officers, pharmacists, and staff members, as well as representatives from the horticulture department and various other administrative units....
