'UP elections a do-or-die battle': Akhilesh Yadav vows 'PDA' government
LUCKNOW, April 3 -- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday accused the BJP of attempting to influence elections in various states in collusion with the Election Commission (EC) and asserted that his party is preparing to counter such "conspiracies" to establish a "PDA government" in Uttar Pradesh.
During a key meeting with party leaders, he reminded his cadre that the 2027 UP polls are a "do or die" mission to safeguard democracy and the Constitution and vowed to oust the BJP. Yadav launched a sharp attack on the BJP government, accusing it of widespread corruption, policy failures and undermining constitutional values. "The BJP government has ruined UP. All records of corruption and looting have been shattered. Education and healthcare systems have collapsed and law and order has crumbled," he said at the meeting of district, metropolitan and assembly-level presidents at the SP state headquarters in Lucknow.
He urged workers to prepare meticulously and secure victory at the booth level to form the next government under his leadership. Akhilesh Yadav highlighted the SP's strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where it emerged as the single largest opposition party in UP.
"The Constitution is everything for the SP. The BJP does not respect the Constitution," he asserted, adding that the party follows the path of truth and integrity while the BJP relies on falsehood.
The SP chief also directed full support for the party's candidates in the upcoming teachers' and graduates' MLC elections. The meeting reviewed the party's organisational structure and poll preparedness. Office-bearers passed a resolution to form a Samajwadi Party government in 2027 with Akhilesh Yadav as CM and pledged to leave "no stone unturned" to achieve the goal.
To a query on the Election Commission's role in Bengal elections, Yadav said: "As soon as the assembly elections in other states conclude, the BJP's entire army and battalions will descend upon UP. We are observing the tactics that the BJP and the EC are jointly employing in other states where elections are underway. Party organisation members must remain vigilant to thwart the BJP's conspiracies."
Referring to developments in West Bengal, Yadav questioned the move to transfer senior officials ahead of elections. "When elections are announced, officials are expected to follow the EC's directives. In West Bengal, many top officials, including the chief secretary and the DGP, have been removed," he said and asked if any officials were removed from their posts in the last UP elections.
Many top administrative and police officials, including the chief secretary and the DGP, were transferred in West Bengal after the poll dates were announced for the state.
"The SP lodged complaints against numerous officials, alleging they acted as agents of the BJP; yet, not a single official was removed," said Yadav....
