Year on, 30 still remain missing: RTI
JAMMU, Aug. 14 -- A year after a massive cloudburst hit Chishoti village during the Mata Machail pilgrimage, 30 people, largely pilgrims, still remain missing from the village.
According to officials, over 60 people were killed and several others injured in the natural calamity.
While responding to a RTI application by Jammu based RTI activist Raman Kumar Sharma, the Kishtwar district administration said that 63 dead bodies were recovered in the rescue operations launched in the aftermath of the natural calamity. "63 dead bodies were recovered while 30 remain missing. At least 127 others were injured," stated the reply.
Under SDRF norms, the administration had provided a compensation of Rs.4 lakh each to the kin of 63 victims that amounted to Rs.2.52 crore, it added further. Officials said that the administration had officially recovered at least 66 dead bodies (three headless) and reported that 30 remained missing till date.
Meanwhile, the MeT department has forecast a few spells of rain and thunder showers at many places with heavy rain and brief but intense heavy showers in a few districts till August 19....
