Shimla, July 21 -- War of words has erupted between Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced to rename Shimla dental college as Rajiv Gandhi Dental College. The announcement, that came on Saturday, has not gone well with the Opposition who has criticised the chief minister's decision with former CM Jai Ram Thakur saying that Sukhu is renaming institutions to stay in power through "sycophancy" towards the Gandhi family. Meanwhile, the state Congress president Vinay Kumar has advised the former CM to exercise restraint in his language and refrain from insulting senior Congress leaders. He stated that the Gandhi family has sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the nation, therefore, naming prominent institutions after these leaders is not an incorrect decision. Criticizing the BJP, Vinay Kumar remarked that the party has been making futile attempts to mislead the public in the state through falsehoods. The BJP lacks any substantive issue against the state's Congress government that could yield political gain. The people of the state are fully aware of the discrepancy between the BJP's words and deeds and will no longer fall for their false inducements or deceptive tactics. Kumar also dismissed the BJP's claim that the Modi government at the Centre is providing substantial assistance to the state as factually incorrect. He stated that the Centre has not provided any special financial aid to the state to date. htc...
