Two killed as truck falls into gorge, catches fire
JAMMU, May 31 -- A truck driver among two people were killed after their truck carrying limestone plunged into a gorge and caught fire near Gangroo in the Ramsoo area of Ramban district on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway during early hours of Saturday, said officials.
"A truck loaded with wall putty veered off the road and plunged into a gorge at Gangroo. Two partially burnt bodies were recovered from the truck," said a police officer.
The deceased were identified as truck driver Shakir Ahmed Manhas of Talaab Nachalana, presently putting up at Watrag Matan in Anantnag and conductor Mohammad Iqbal of Keherbal in Anantnag
Both the bodies were later shifted to primary health centre Ramsoo and subsequently to PHC Ukhral for post-mortem examination.
According to police, the truck was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle near Gangroo.
Police personnel from police station Ramsoo, volunteers of the Himalayan Quick Response Team (QRT) Ramsoo, CRPF personnel and Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Officials said the truck was engulfed in flames when rescuers reached the scene....
