Toddler among 2 dead, 6 hurt in Una mishap
Shimla, Oct. 11 -- Two people, including a three-year-old child and his 65-year-old grandmother, died and six other family members were injured after the motorcycle-cart they were travelling in overturned near the famous Pirnigah Temple in Himachal's Una district on Saturday, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Akhil (3) and his grandmother Jilo Kumari, residents of Bholath in Kapurthala, Punjab. Hearing the cries for help, locals rushed to the spot and arranged transportation for the injured to rush them to a hospital.
All the injured were taken to the Regional Hospital in Una, where doctors declared the woman and the child brought dead. One of the injured women, Heena Kumari, who suffered a skull fracture, has been referred to PGI Chandigarh in critical condition. Una superintendent of police (SP) Sachin Hiremath said a family from Bholath in Kapurthala district had come to offer prayers at the Pirnigah Temple on Saturday morning.
After paying their respects, the family were returning on a motorcycle-cart. Shortly after leaving the temple, the vehicle lost control and overturned.
The injured have been identified as Ladi, 32, his wife Heena, 30, and their four children. A case has been registered by the police. Further investigation is underway....
