Shimla, Aug. 11 -- Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday virtually inaugurated a new fire station at Nerwa in Shimla district. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said the facility would not only respond to fire emergencies but would also play an important role in relief and rescue operations during heavy rainfall, landslides and other emergencies. The chief minister said the new fire station would benefit around 55,000 people in the Nerwa area, with two fire-fighting vehicles to be provided shortly. The announcement for establishment of a fire station in the area was made by CM during his visit on March 5, 2024. Sukhu said 17 new posts had been sanctioned for the smooth functioning of the Nerwa fire station. He said the state government was committed to strengthening the rural economy while ensuring that people living in villages had access to better, urban-like facilities close to their homes. The state government has decided to upgrade six government schools across thestate as Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools. The schools selected for upgradation are: Government Senior Secondary School, Karsog (CBSE); Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Rampur Bushahr (CBSE); Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Rohru (HPBOSE); Government Senior Secondary School, Chopal (CBSE); Government Senior Secondary School, Nauradhar (CBSE) andGovernment Senior Secondary School, Behdala (HPBOSE) in Una. Sukhu said that education and health remain among the top priorities of the state government and concerted efforts by the present government have started yielding positive results. The chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the introduction of CBSE-based education in government schools has also yielded encouraging results.
