Shimla, Aug. 4 -- Elections for the Shimla Zila Parishad president and vice-president, slated forMonday, were postponed due to a lack of quorum. The Shimla Zila Parishad comprises 25 members. Members from both the Congress and BJP failed to attend the meeting, preventing the election process from commencing. The election results were announced on May 31 in which 12 members from the BJP, 11 from the Congress, and two independent members were elected. Securing the support of 13 members is essential to win the election for chairperson and V-C. In the current scenario, neither party holds an absolute majority, making the two independent members the deciding factor in who holds power. Shimla deputy commissioner Anupam Kashyap had convened a meeting of all elected members; however, the absence of members from both major parties meant the necessary quorum was not met. The DC will announce the new date for the election soon. "No members attended meeting today (Monday). Consequently, notices regarding participation will be issued for the next meeting. While the first meeting required a two-thirds quorum (17 members), the requirement for the subsequent meeting is a 50% quorum," Kashyap said....
