Rs.50-L jewellery theft: Shimla police arrest 2 women from Patiala
Shimla, July 2 -- The Shimla police have solved a jewellery theft case within three days by arresting two women from Punjab for theft of gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 50 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Chandravati (39), and Rekha (40), both hailing from Patiala in Punjab.
Police recovered approximately 40 tolas of gold jewellery and 250 grams of silver ornaments, achieving complete recovery of the stolen property.
According to Shimla police, the case was registered at Sadar Police Station on June 25, under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following a complaint by Khub Singh Thakur, a resident of Shimla district.
The complainant alleged that while shopping in Lower Bazaar, Shimla, unidentified women stole his sling bag containing ornaments.
The total value of the stolen property was estimated at Rs 50 lakh.
Acting on the technical and physical evidence, the police team tracked the suspects to Punjab and conducted a raid on June 28.
Both women were arrested, and the entire stolen jewellery was recovered from their possession.
The arrested women were produced before the competent court, which remanded them to police custody until July 2....
